To comply with the adage "in May, what do you like" and after a unanimous vote of the participants (or Nha Hien and me), we decided to extend our trip by one month in Malaysia and 2 weeks in Australia! Indeed, excellent managers that we are (and thanks to parents who since NH 10 days to make a good portion of our costs) we have achieved in 4 months of travel, Vietnam tours savings from the budget originally. We therefore benefit to discover after Vietnam, Malaysia. Then we will be flying from Singapore to Sydney and stay 4 weeks in Australia. For those worrying in advance, we will remain in Peninsular Malaysia (under Thailand) and will not in Borneo! But back to our journey through the Vietnam ... After leaving the town of Hoi An, we returned to the inland, to discover the Highlands by the Ho Chi Minh trail (open during the war by the Viet Cong down to the south). Ethnic groups in this region have lost their customs and dress their own town with a huge straw roofs, can be distinguished from the ethnic Vietnamese. Many hills were not recover their vegetation, destroyed by bombing, napalm and chemical agents but there are still beautiful forests, including pine, and sometimes it is like in France! Vietnam cheap tours Then we returned to the coast, Quang Ngai, where we visited the site of My Son: sort of Oradour sur Glane "Vietnamese, more than 500 civilians (many women and children) were massacred by the GI American, a day in March 1968. The aftermath of this disaster visit, we went to the seaside resort of Nha Trang where we found the parents of Nha Hien (who are in Vietnam - Saigon - since 2 months). It was at Nha Trang as the father of NH owned a hotel that he had to "surrender charge" to the Communists after 1975. It is now on his land, a huge Japanese hotel of 12 floors! We enjoyed our stay at the seaside, to go diving with the Blue Diving Club "hosted by Joel, Brittany and bon vivant. The water was good (28 degrees), the ship "Le Mont St Michel" comfortable and we were able to welcome some big octopus and nudibranch, and a lot of small fish with eyes. We also enjoyed a pancake to dive back! We have dined several times at the restaurant "chicken french" held by Bressan (Editor's note: born in Bourg en Bresse, like your favorite editor!) Love of Asia but somewhat disappointed (like us) by the attitude Vietnamese towards tourists (it has already been insulted several times for refusing to buy things ...) After the sand and sun in Nha Trang, we went to cool off in Dalat 1500 m altitude in the mountains. This small town, spa created by the french 110 years ago and surrounded by pine forests, has a lake, a golf course, a former high school french (or the father of NH was gym teacher for a school year in 1948 ....) and old colonial-style villas Norman and Basque savoyard following the origin of their former owners ... there is even a brand new cable car to visit a pagoda in passing over the forest and terraced gardens where vegetables are grown (a lot of artichokes), strawberries, flowers. In Dalat, Vietnam tour packages artichokes are eaten dried to make herbal tea. Then after 3 days of freshness (it was out of long sleeves in the evening) we arrived in Ho Chi Minh City (which everyone still calls Saigon) economic capital, stifling a big city of 7 million . The city center still has old buildings and monuments "from the time of the french" as the great post, Notre Dame, Old Town Hall ... Nha Hien reviewed the old building where he lived with his parents small and where he threw ducklings through the window to "see if they could fly" (dixit NH, who wanted to test the Darwinian selection and the law of Newton). 2 of 6 would have survived a plane flight it seems!! We have made shopping in Cholon, the Chinese district of Saigon, "a city within a city" since its economic importance. On 14 May, we went to "Family" in Vung Tau (Cap St. Jacques), the resort closest to Saigon, disfigured by the ugly and anarchic constructions. We will stay in Saigon until 21 May, when the parents return from NH in France, then descend to visit the Mekong Delta and the hometown of Nha Hien, Chau Doc. ... To be continued ...
